(1) Manta
In Okinawa's waters, you can expect to see manta rays, especially during the summer months.The Nanyo manta ray is the main species observed, and this is the largest known ray in the world.
Especially during the fall breeding season, you may witness several males chasing females.
(2) Clownfish
The waters of Miyakojima are also home to the clownfish made famous by Finding Nemo.
These small fish live symbiotically with anemones and can be seen emerging from the anemone when looking at the seafloor.
(iii) Unlined clamshell
One of the fish that can be seen in the waters of Miyako Island is the blue-bodied tropical fish, the blue tang.
The blue tang is widely distributed from Suruga Bay and southward to coral reefs and reef areas in the Indian Ocean.
(4) Gurukul
Gurukun (formally known as Takasago) is a marine fish belonging to the Takasago family of the sea bass order, and is designated as a prefectural fish of Okinawa Prefecture.
This fish is often caught and sold at low prices, making it a favorite among locals who frequently find it on Okinawan tables.
(5) Akamibai
The red meibai (official name: kokuhan grouper) is a member of the grouper family with a red body and blue or blackish spots except on the pectoral fins, and is about 40 cm long.
This fish is known as a high quality fish and is an integral part of Okinawa's culinary culture as a local delicacy such as marsh stew.
