What is National Travel Assistance (National Travel Discount)?
Nationwide expansion of the "prefectural and block discount" tourism support programIt is. This is the first national travel support since GoTo Travel, which has been suspended since 2020.
3-Minute Facts! National Travel Allotment Overview
The National Travel Discount is a "nationwide tourism demand stimulus program" announced by the Japan Tourism Agency in June 2022 (2022). (The following discount rates are available until December 27, 2022.)
National Travel Discount Overview
(1) 40% discount on the trip price
Like GoTo Travel, the government supports a portion of the cost of the trip, allowing you to travel at a discounted price.
The discount rate is up to 40% (the maximum discount is up to 8,000 yen per night for travel with transportation).

(2) Different regional coupons are given for weekdays and holidays
Local coupons (3,000 yen worth on weekdays and 1,000 yen worth on weekends and holidays) that can be used locally, like a common regional coupon, will be given.
◆For trips that include overnight stays, if both the overnight stay and the following day are holidays (Saturday, Sunday, or national holiday), the overnight stay will be treated as a "holiday" and the rest of the trip will be treated as a "weekday".
◆Day trips are treated as "holidays" on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays, and all other days are treated as "weekdays".

The National Travel Discount covers travel and lodging throughout Japan. However, prefectures that do not wish to participate in the National Travel Discount are not eligible.

To qualify for the discount, the patient must have "already received three doses of vaccine against the novel coronavirus" or "results of PCR test, etc. are negative (proof must be submitted).

What happens to the National Travel Allotment if it is already reserved?
We are waiting for an official announcement from the secretariat as to whether the discount can be applied to those that have already been reserved. (Each prefecture will make the final decision on whether the discount can be applied later.)
After the start of the National Travel Discount, we anticipate a surge in lodging rates and a rush of reservations. It is a good idea to hold your lodging tentatively, but be sure to check the cancellation policy!
Differences between National Travel Discount and other campaigns
The Okinawa Sai Discovery Campaign is Okinawa's own name for the "Kenminwari" tourism support program currently in place.
