Although I participated in the experience on my own, the farmer was very friendly and chatted with me, so I had no time to feel lonely and really enjoyed myself. First, we toured a field lined with banana trees while listening to the farmer’s stories, and next, we had the opportunity to carefully observe the process of slowly boiling down sugarcane to make brown sugar. Finally, we got to enjoy the freshly made sweets we’d prepared ourselves—their rich sweetness was so delicious it almost made our cheeks drop. If I had to nitpick, the workshop was a bit muggy, so it would have been perfect if there had been a few more fans. It was a truly valuable experience.

Making brown sugar was interesting, but it was hotter and more tiring than I had imagined because of the fire. The sweets were delicious, but I would have liked to experience it in a cooler environment.
