Miyako Island is full of attractions that can be enjoyed regardless of the season. However, you will not have a comfortable trip if you do not pay attention to what you wear and what you bring. In this issue, we will introduce recommended clothing and events for each season, as well as activities that you should definitely participate in.
What is Miyako Island?
Miyakojima Island is located south of the main island of Okinawa and is served by regular flights from Tokyo and Fukuoka. In 2019, Shimojishima Airport was renovated for civilian use, making it an even easier resort to get to.
Miyako Island Weather
The weather on Miyako Island does not fall below 0 degrees Celsius like in Honshu, and the maximum temperature can reach 20 degrees Celsius even in winter. On the other hand, the weather tends to be unstable around summer, which is considered the best season, due to typhoons and the rainy season, so you must check the weather forecast carefully. If you are concerned about the weather, we recommend springtime from April to May, when it is easier to spend time.
Cost of Trip to Miyako Island
The cost of Miyako Island varies greatly between the best season and other seasons. For example, airfare can be reduced to less than 10,000 yen by using LCC. However, during the best seasons, such as summer and Golden Week, prices rise sharply and reservations fill up quickly.
The same applies to car rentals, with special rates during summer vacation and Golden Week. Hotels can be inexpensive by staying at minshuku or guesthouses. If you want to relax, book a more expensive resort hotel.
