    In this issue, we will introduce the attractions and features of the parks on Miyako Island, which are perfect for such family trips, so please be sure to read to the end.

    Miyako Island is a tourist destination that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, but is especially suited for travel with children.

    When traveling with children on a family vacation, children may become bored if all you see are typical resort facilities.

    No. 10: Sheng Kaketsu Park

    盛加越公園In tenth place is Morikagetsu Park, with its attractive playground equipment that is very popular with children.

     

    Park Features

    Located in the center of Miyakojima City, Morikakoshi Park is a very beautiful park where the playground equipment for children in the park was newly renovated in 2012.

    The Jet Roller Slide (a large-scale slide) is very popular and attracts many children on weekends and holidays.

    No. 9: Kawamitsu Park

    No. 9 is Kawamitsu Park, one of the most spectacular spots near a fishing port.

     

    Park Features

    Kawamitsu Park is surrounded by the beautiful ocean of Yonara Bay and is a typical Miyako Island park with mangroves growing on the beach.

    It will be scenic, peaceful and relaxing.

    You can also see airplanes taking off from Miyakojima Airport, which is located on the extension.

    About 3 km from Miyakojima Airport, a 7-minute drive will take you to Kawamitsu Fishing Port, where you will find a park near the fishing port.

     

    No. 8: Pina Gama Sea Sky Sukoyaka Park

    How about a large, new park that is well-loved by Miyako Island residents?

    We introduce Pina Gama Sea Sky Sukoyaka Park, which is ranked 8th in the list.

     

    Park Features

    Established in 2017, the park has a spacious area for children to play.

    Other amenities include a dog run, basketball court, barbecue space, running track, and private beach.

    There is an administration building and reception desk, and the entire park is well managed.

    It can be used for sports and entertainment, and is a place of relaxation for local residents on sunny holidays.

    This is a perfect park when letting children play in the open.

    Parking, restrooms, beach, and other facilities and sports space are available.

    About 15 minutes from Miyako Airport, head toward Painagama Beach and take the road on the right side of "Beach Side Tarama" to see the entrance to the park.

    No. 7: Octopus Park

    来間島のタコ公園

    No. 7 is Octopus Park, where you can experience the emerald blue sea and the nature of Miyako Island.

     

    Park Features

    Located at the end of the Kurema Bridge connecting Miyakojima and Kurema Island, the park is marked by a monument of an octopus.

    There is no playground equipment, but there is a boardwalk where visitors can enjoy the bright blue sea and the pristine nature of Miyako Island.

    The beach near the park offers coral reefs and is a famous snorkeling hole, making it a good place to enjoy marine activities in the summer.

    Please note that parking spaces are available, but only for a few cars.

    From Miyako Airport, take National Route 390 to the Kushima Bridge, and you will find a park and tourist information board at the end of the bridge.

     

    Night tours are very popular at Octopus Park.

    The Health Fureai Land Park, established in 2009, is a park with various facilities, including health equipment for light exercise, an observatory, a promenade, and a pavilion.

    There are also other mazes, plazas, and lawns that children will enjoy, allowing them to play freely and openly.

    The nearby seaside area also offers beautiful scenery.

    The observatory with a view of Irabu Island is also recommended!

    There is a parking lot where large buses can park, and other facilities include restrooms and shower rooms.

    A 25-30 minute drive from Miyako Airport, take Prefectural Road 230 in the direction of Miyakojima Uminchu Park.

    There are signs along the way that will be easy to find.

     

    No. 5: Two River Seaside Park

    No. 5 is Tulliver Seaside Park, a vast seaside park located near the Irabu Bridge.

     

    Park Features

    Located in front of the Irabu Bridge, this beach park has a pedestrian walkway area, embankment, and pavilion.

    It is also a famous fishing spot, so parents and children can enjoy fishing together.

    The park also offers a panoramic view of the Irabu Bridge, which is a sight to behold.

    In addition, you will be able to relax and enjoy the beautiful sunset beach at dusk.

    Parking, restrooms, and vending machines are available.

    From Miyako Airport, drive for about 15 to 20 minutes along the Takano Nishisato Line to the Irabu Bridge, and you will see the park just before crossing the bridge.

     

    No. 4: Higashiheananazaki Park

    No. 4 is Higashi Heiannazaki Park, a superb scenic spot that has been selected as one of the 100 most scenic spots in Japan.

     

    Park Features

    The beach and the park grounds are a valuable natural park, with nationally designated raised coral reef groups and plants unique to the subtropical zone.

    This park is also famous for its beautiful scenery, which has been selected as one of the 100 best urban parks in Japan. Around May, the cape and the entire flatlands are in full bloom with tephra lilies, which are said to be abundant in Kyushu and Okinawa.

    It takes about 1 km to reach the lighthouse on foot, but guided rickshaw tours are also available for visitors with small children.

    Observing rare plants is fun, but the panoramic view of the immense sea from the lighthouse and cape is breathtaking.

    It has a parking lot for about 50 cars, rest facilities, and restrooms.

    Please note that there is an entrance fee for the Heian-no-zaki Lighthouse located within the park.

    It is about 30-40 minutes by car from the city center and Miyako Airport.

    Take Prefectural Routes 83 and 390 to reach Higashi Heiannazaki, the easternmost point of Miyako Island.

    It is somewhat far from the city center, but there are signs along the way, so you should be able to get there without getting lost unless you are in a bad situation.

     

    No. 3: Kakawatori Park

    In third place is Kakawatori Park, a hole-in-the-wall park that is not well known by locals.

     

    Park Features

    Completed in 2007, Kakawatori Park is a vast site with a multipurpose plaza, swings, seesaws, and other equipment that children love to play with.

    Also unique to Okinawa is the giant Shisa slide.

    There are also other learning plazas and sites where children can learn about constellations, space, and wartime history, and inspire them to learn through play.

    In addition, there is a deck for bird watching.

    From Miyako Airport, it is a 15-20 minute drive to the north of Hirara city center.

    There is a fishing port nearby, where marine activities and fishing can be enjoyed.

    There is also a ranch and a beach, but please note that the ranch is free to visit only and the beach is closed to swimming.

     

    No. 2: Kamamaling Park

    In second place is Kamamamine Park, which is easily accessible from Hirara City and is full of Okinawan and Miyako Island character.

     

    Park Features

    Kamamaling Park is a large park beloved by both local residents and tourists.

    This park also has a giant Shisa slide, which has a wide-open mouth so that you can take pictures of your child's adorable face peeking out from inside the mouth.

    A sandbox and tennis court are available for children who want to play actively and enjoy sports.

    Other pavilions made of red tiles are scattered throughout the park, providing a unique Okinawan atmosphere.

    Also, from the third floor of the large-scale observation facility, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the Irabu Bridge, said to be the longest in Japan, and the cityscape of Hirara.

    There is a parking lot and a restroom with barrier-free access.

    About 15 minutes from Miyako Airport, the park is located in the center of Hirara City.

    It is about 5 minutes away from Hirara Port.

     

    No. 1: Miyakojima Underwater Park

    The park I would like to introduce as No. 1 is Miyakojima Underwater Park.

    The park has so many facilities that you can enjoy sightseeing here alone!

     

    Park Features

    Miyakojima Underwater Park is located surrounded by the sea and is a large-scale tourist park with underwater observation facilities.

    宮古島海中公園

    Fish and other creatures living on the ocean floor at depths of 3 to 5 meters can be easily observed without diving or snorkeling.

    The facility also has a merchandising corner and a café, making it ideal for taking a break or purchasing souvenirs.

    It is equipped with barrier-free facilities, restrooms, and handicapped-accessible parking spaces.

    From Miyakojima Airport, head northwest, using Prefectural Routes 243, 78, 83, 230, etc.

    There are signs and other landmarks along the way, so use the landmarks as a guide as you head there.
